THE BEFORE PHOTO.
The next trip requires a new bike.
Enter a plated Yamaha 2019 WR450F. This photo was taken ten months ago on Day 1 of the modification process that will turn it into an Adventure Enduro.
The planning process started over two years ago, when I reached out to Dakar Rally veteran and overall badass Rodney Faggotter. He generously offered me some sage advice on how to modify the WR into an expedition bike.
The Yamaha is now just weeks away from being ready for its shakedown trip: a 2100 mile solo off-road trek from the US/Mexico border to the US/Canada border. Starting in Yuma, AZ, I’ll head through the sands of Arizona and California, across the high desert scrub of Nevada, to the hopefully thawing mountain passes of Idaho.
I’ve received some amazing support during this overly long modification process; very soon, I’ll be highlighting the awesome people who’ve been helping me with this project.
